One of Those Days

Do you ever have those days when you’re just having the blahs? You’re feeling down with a heaviness in your heart and spirit? I know I do.

Sometimes it’s because I’ve got much on my mind and too much in my schedule. Sometimes it’s because life is hard and relationships are messy. Sometimes it’s because I’m burdened by the circumstance or heartache someone I know is experiencing. And sometimes…I just have the blahs for no apparent reason. During these times I have a choice.I can give into the blah and go about my day with my head down and feet dragging or I can turn to the One who is the lifter of my head!

The psalmist is having one of those days. His foes are rising up against him and he’s feeling weary and despised. He’s fearful. But quickly the psalmist turns His eyes to the Lord. He declares who God is! He cries out to the Lord, and God answers him.

The psalmist praises God as his shield, his protector and defender, his glory, the One who gives his life true worth and meaning —the Lifter of his head.

I love the word picture of God being the lifter of my head! Sometimes when we are discouraged and feeling defeated, that’s just what we need —someone to stand beside us, to lean against, to protect and defend us and to remind us where we find our true worth and purpose in life. The Lifter of my head changes my perspective from an inward and downward gaze to an upward one. My focus is set on the Lord, who He is and what He has done — this lifts my head and my heart!

What’s causing you to walk around heavy-hearted and discouraged today? Look up! Look to Jesus! Find a renewed sense of joy, peace and perspective!

Father God, I praise you because you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head when I am weary or despised.

But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head. — Psalm 3:3

Blessings!
