Help! I Need A Makeover.

All Things New_Rev 21-5

You know those days when everything feels old and worn? Those days when you just need something new to freshen things up. At times, I feel that way not just physically but also mentally.

One of the first Scriptures I remember learning and memorizing as a new believer, was Romans 12:1-2. I remember at first reading how that verse hit me a like a tidal wave—truth, grace, hope and wisdom all washing over me like a cleansing flood. I had made so many poor decisions, before following Jesus, that constantly weighed on my heart and mind as a new believer. Daily, I was battling mental assaults and sin that left me questioning, doubting and defeated. This powerful truth in Romans 12:2 paired with Hebrews 4:12-13 were the instructions of hope and renewal I needed.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. —Romans 12:2

For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. —Hebrews 4:12-13

Jesus does not leave us to wallow in our old ways of thinking and behaving. God’s heart desire is to make us more like Jesus every day. He uses His powerful Word to expose our wrong ways of thinking and points us to the truth that will transform us. His Spirit is alive in us effecting change as we surrender to his gentle whispers of truth that bring about conviction, healing and restoration. He makes us new—it’s a mind makeover!

Such hope and encouragement are found in these verses. I am changed as I run my thoughts through the truth of God’s Word. His Word is like a spa for the soul providing renewal, revival, rejuvenation and restoration. Every day can be a day at the spa for your mind as you open the living and active Word of God! You can read more about this here.

God’s Word is not simply words on a page, but as Hebrews 4:12 describes, it is living and active. These words in the original language mean it is fresh, powerful, energy. It affects real change in my life.

…put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. —Colossians 3:10

I want to share a resource with you this month that I hope you’ll find helpful and encouraging. It’s a publication put out by the Warren Sports and Fitness Ministry of my church. This issue is aptly titled Mind Makeover. Love that! You’ll also find great articles on health and fitness, marriage, and more.

Enjoy and be encouraged!
